I am currently a writer-in-residence for The National Trust of Western Australia at Woodbridge House (Mandoon). The three week residency is a wonderful time to immerse in the multiple uses of the property and surrounds. I am particularly interested in its time as The Old Women’s Home from 1942-1963 and the current focus on Aged Care in light of the Royal Commission’s findings. Unfortunately, little has changed in society’s unfavourable views with ageing and elders. Elder abuse, infantalisation and invisibility are still issues. I am working on a sequence of poems that will give agency to the aged without shying away from the very real and pressing issues in ageing and aged care. Stay tuned for community engagement activities, which will include readings, workshops and education programs.
